Charanjit Singh Channi was born on 1 March 1963 in a very poor family at a place called Makrona Kala, Chamkaur Sahib, Punjab. His father’s name is S Harsa Singh, and mother’s name is Ajmer Singh. His wife’s name is Kamaljeet Kaur. And they have two sons, whose names are Ridhamjit Singh, Navjit Singh.

During the childhood of Charanjit Singh Channi, the financial condition of his house was not good. His father used to run the household expenses in any way, his father also went to Malaysia to improve the financial condition of the house, after collecting some money, he came back to his house and started the business of tents. Where Channi also used to help his father. Due to this, the financial condition of their house gradually improved.

He got politics from his Sikh home, his father used to be the sarpanch of his panchayat. Charanjit Singh Channi’s political journey started when he was first elected MLA from Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency of Punjab in the year 2007, after which he became MLA from the same seat twice in 2012 and 2017. In total, he has been an MLA for three times.

Due to this, his credibility increased in the Punjab Congress, and he emerged as a big leader of Punjab Congress, he also became the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly in the year 2015-2016. And then in the year 2017, in the cabinet of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, this policy was taken over by the Ministry of Education, and Industrial Training.

When Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister in September 2021. The Congress high command, showing confidence in Charanjit Singh Channi, offered him the chief minister’s post. And then finally on 20 September 2021, Charanjit Singh Channi took oath as the 27th Chief Minister of Punjab. With this, he has become the first Chief Minister in the history of Punjab who comes from the Dalit Sikh community (Scheduled Castes).

Charanjit Singh Channi has always been associated with controversies. In the year 2018, he got into controversies for the first time, and a video of him went viral on social media, in which he was tossing a coin and deciding people for the post of lecturer. Actually at that time he used to be the minister of Punjab. In the year 2018, he also had to face action in the “MeToo” case. Later, he was accused of sending a wrong message to a woman IAS officer. However, this dispute was later resolved.
